Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Prepare to work in a recovery environment
  2. In readiness for pre-deployment, appropriate support resources for own health and wellbeing and work output are researched and documented
  3. Confirm context of recovery
  4. Activities that can support recovery in the prevention, preparedness and response phases of emergency management are identified
  5. Building of disaster resilience through all aspects of emergency management is identified
  6. The recovery life cycle is described
  7. Apply the principles of disaster recovery
  8. Importance of having a planned, coordinated and adaptive approach to a community-led recovery is verified
  9. Principles of effective communication with disaster-affected individuals, communities and other stakeholders are implemented
  10. Recovery activities that recognise, support and build individual, community and organisational capacity are confirmed
  11. Confirm recovery environments
  12. Built environment impact categories that may be subject to direct and indirect effects are identified
  13. Economic environment sectors that may be subject to direct and indirect effects are identified
  14. Components of the natural environment that may be subject to direct and indirect effects are identified
  15. Communicate across the recovery environment
  16. Communication channels that may be used to establish and maintain two-way communication with disaster-affected people, communities and stakeholders are identified
  17. Feedback on effectiveness of communications is sought and referred to appropriate personnel and changes are made where necessary

Performance Evidence

Evidence required to demonstrate competence in this unit must be relevant to and satisfy all of the requirements of the elements and performance criteria on at least one occasion and include the following as they relate to recovery scenarios:

communicating effectively with disaster-impacted individuals

following organisational policies and procedures

maintaining personal wellbeing and self-care

outlining recovery activities related to the emergency management phases of prevention, preparedness, response and recovery

supporting a diverse range of disaster-affected individuals and communities

working collaboratively with disaster-affected individuals, communities and other stakeholders.
